5 Great Running Routes in Seattle

With a large network of trails and mild weather, Seattle is a great city for running. From urban trails, to parks, to views of the water, Seattle offers a range of running routes that are perfect for runners looking for scenic runs. Here are 5 of our favourite running routes in Seattle, including some bonus runs, perfect for the traveling runner!

 

Discovery Park Loop

Discovery Park, a former military base, is located in the Magnolia neighbourhood of Seattle. This route takes you along the Discovery Park Loop Trail, a designated National Recreation Trail, with a detour, taking you past sites such as Lawton Point and the West Point Lighthouse.

This run starts in a densely wooded Interlake Park, right in the heart of Capitol Hill. The route then leads you to Volunteer Park, leading you past the Seattle Asian Art Museum, the water tower, and the Conservatory. Pause this run throughout the route at these locations if you want to get some extra site-seeing in throughout this run!

This run is a city-escape, a hidden gem along the shores of Lake Washington. On this route, you will see and experience a sensational assortment of trees and plants, and have a chance to spot bald eagles and enjoy a view of Lake Washington as you run along the north-end of the park.

Explore downtown Seattle and visit the major sites of Seattle with RunGo! This tour takes you past some of the most iconic sites in the city, including Pike Place Market, Occidental Park and the Grand Central Arcade, as well as the iconic Space Needle and Chihuly Gardens and Glass!

This run takes you through the quirky, artistic-hub of Fremont, taking you past some of the most iconic neighbourhood street sculptures, including the 'Fremont Troll'(pictured above), and 'Waiting for the Interurban'. Continuing on the Burke-Gilman Trail, it takes you all the way from Fremont, to Gas Works Park, to the University of Washington campus. This route gives you the chance to explore the unique community of Fremont, as well as enjoy a lake-side run, and a chance to see a bit of the local university's campus.
