The Netherlands – 11 OCTOBER 2021 – Hilton (NYSE: HLT) has today launched a new initiative in the Netherlands featuring bespoke guided running routes available to guests at seven of its hotels. Together with RunGo, the unique voice navigated running app, Hilton has created three bespoke routes under the themes running, sightseeing and mindfulness for each hotel.

Erwin Verhoog, vice president operations, Continental Europe Hilton, said, “With outdoor exercise more popular than ever, we are excited to partner with RunGo to offer guided running routes to our guests in the Netherlands. With both the Amsterdam Marathon and Rotterdam Marathon fast approaching, now is the perfect time to introduce this new functionality and allow our guests to enjoy bespoke routes designed to help them exercise, experience the city and benefit from the positive mental impact of running.”

Noah Bloom, Head of Partnerships at RunGo, said, "We are thrilled to be partnering with an international brand such as Hilton, allowing guests at their hotels in the Netherlands to explore their environment and keep fit at the same time. We believe that walking, jogging, and running outdoors is the perfect way to get acquainted with a new city and, with routes ranging from three to nine kilometres and beyond, and themed runs that focus on sightseeing, mindfulness, and GPS art as well as fitness, we’ve made sure that there are options for all abilities and interests."

Centred around a starting point from the hotel, guests will be able to connect to RunGo’s app and select the route they wish to take: accessible routes of a few kilometres, longer sightseeing tours, challenging and exploratory courses, and, in some properties, art drawn by the path you run created by local GPS artist Runbrandt.

Once selected, guests can run, jog or walk their route with audio and written direction from their phones, taking in the local area and sights and sounds of their surroundings. Very few out-and-back routes will be offered: exploration needs loops, and safe navigation allows it.

This announcement comes days before the Amsterdam Marathon, taking place this weekend, and the Rotterdam Marathon, taking place next weekend, two national events that see runners all over the country come together. Guests will be able to find marathon weekend prep routes built on the final five kilometres of these race routes: the perfect pre-race run, allowing you to visualize your race and hear unique insights from the app.

Following restrictions last year that saw gyms and other indoor sports facilities close, outdoor running dramatically increased in popularity all over the world. RunGo saw a marked growth of 159% of completed runs and parks saw increased traffic from people enjoying nature more than ever before. Now, as domestic and international travel opens, travellers can bring their renewed love for outdoor running with them as they travel.

Hilton’s partnership with RunGo is the latest in a series of new technologies introduced across its hotels, including digital key, digital check-in and room selection.
